How does a smart fitting room work?
Customers enter the fitting room with their chosen garments, each of which carries an RFID tag encoded with a unique identifier. Once in the fitting room, the customer hangs the garment on a bar attached to a panel. A reader will detect the garment's tag and a screen will light up to show what the customer is carrying and provide recommendations for similar products.
If the customer finds they need a larger or smaller size garment, they can use the touchscreen to request an alternative garment or accessory.
Using an app running a handheld device, sales staff, when receiving a message from a fitting room, learn which fitting room the requested item came from, they confirm the need and find the required product to hand over to the customer.
If there are still garments in the fitting room after the customer has left, the app alerts staff who can then retrieve the items and put them back on display in the shop.
Enhancing the Service Experience of Physical Shopping with RFID
Enhancing the brick-and-mortar shopping experience with RFID can also help companies collect information about the items customers try on and the purchases they make. This helps shops better manage their merchandise and even predict inventory loss.
