RFID Card: A New Chapter of Intelligent Identification

2024-06-21

RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification Card, is an intelligent card with internal microprocessors and storage units. The emergence of this RFID Card has not only greatly promoted the development of automatic identification technology, but also brought unprecedented convenience to our daily lives.

Working Principle of RFID Card

The working principle of this RFID Card is based on wireless communication technology. It identifies specific targets and reads and writes related data through radio signals without the need to establish mechanical or optical contact between the identification system and the specific target. It is composed of a microchip and antenna that can store unique identifiers and other information as well as receive or send data through such antenna.

Characteristics of RFID Card

High reliability: Avoiding variety of faults caused by contact reading/writing by adopting a non-contact design for RFID Cards improves its ability against statics discharge and environmental pollution implying its reliability.

Ease of use: Just swipe; it’s done, quick to get in or out without inserting or removing cards because it takes 0.1-0.3 seconds per operation that card can pass over reading-writing device in any direction during handling.

High security: The serial number for each card is globally unique, meaning that once released from the factory it cannot be modified anymore. There is two-way mutual recognition verification mechanism between cards and reader/writer, that is reader/writer checks the legitimacy of the card while at the same time card checks legitimacy of reader/writer where every information transferred during communication process gets encrypted all being partitioned into various sections within this same card having separate passwords plus access conditions.

Application scenarios of RFID Card

Multiple industries/fields have widely embraced usage of this RFID Card including among others:

Supply chain management: Faster inventory counting, few manual mistakes, real-time inventory monitoring system by keeping track on goods from suppliers up to retail stores.

Access control system: Quick access control with high level security which enhance safety and management efficiency.

Public transportation: Quick payments, easy to move using one card for bus and subway fare cards, etc.

I hope this article can help you better understand the working principle, characteristics and application scenarios of RFID Card.
