In 2002, the National Library of Singapore became the first library in the world to adopt RFID technology; with the popularity of RFID technology, the Nordic libraries began to widely use RFID technology (Denmark, Norway, etc.); in 2007, U.S. libraries began to discuss the application of RFID technology in libraries. In China, the library of Cheng Yi College of Jimei University is the first library to deploy RFID system, which was put into use in February 2006, this is the milestone of RFID application in Chinese libraries, and its successful operation provides reference for other libraries.RFID application in Chinese libraries is spreading rapidly, and RFID has been realised to be applied on a large scale in China at present.
Library management using RFID, can achieve efficient management of books, is currently one of the most important ways of library information technology, RFID in the library application value can be summarised in the following aspects:
①Improve the efficiency of book management and book inventory, and assist in the positioning of books.
The use of RFID in libraries can realise the rapid borrowing and returning of books in libraries. The traditional book inventory needs to be completed manually, sometimes the positioning of the books can only be to the bookshelf, the management of data is not timely, and it often takes a long time to find a specific book when the customer wants to. Through RFID management of books, you can achieve accurate search for books and improve management efficiency.
②Reducing library management staff and lowering operating costs
In traditional libraries, each book partition requires a staff member to assist in borrowing and returning books and finding books. Through RFID management of books, a layer of a workstation can be realised to workstation as a unit of management of the library partition, reducing the operating costs of the library.
③Related tracking of library collections to reduce the incidence of lost books
Through the cooperation of RFID and anti-theft door, the problem of lost books can be reduced. At the same time, RFID and books are bound together, and through the data platform, the information such as the borrowing time of the books and the corresponding customers can be quickly corresponded to, and the customers can be reminded on the platform to return the books in time.
④Providing a new book business model and adding new solutions for unmanned management
Self-service micro-libraries are widely used in communities, primary and secondary schools, city libraries and other scenarios. Through RFID standardised management of books, 24-hour book borrowing and returning management is achieved, making libraries smaller, more convenient and intelligent.
